King Kuts Recording is a full-service recording facility located in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Designed to blur the boundary between large-scale commercial studios and “project” or “bedroom” studios, King Kuts combines the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of the smaller project studio with the acoustic isolation and treatment of a commercial facility, as well as the ability to track acoustic instruments and groups.
King Kuts Recording is based around a ProTools Mix|Plus system with multiple interfaces, offering up to 16 simultaneous inputs and the ability to handle sessions of up to 64 tracks – ideal for tracking live bands or rhythm sections. Our high-end monitoring system (by British monitor builders ATC) and extensive acoustic treatment provide an extremely accurate environment for mixing. Our Studer 807 1/4” 2-track deck allows us to print mixes to analog tape, as well as providing analog-to-digital transfer and restoration services for those wishing to preserve or archive old reel-to-reel tapes.
Built by keyboardist/composer/producer Dan Stein, King Kuts features an impressive array of instruments. Starting with a world-class piano, a 7’ 1908 Steinway B, our collection also includes a Hammond C3 organ; a Hohner Clavinet; assorted electric pianos; analog and digital synths; several guitars and basses; and several drum kits. We also have a number of amplifiers ranging from late 50’s tube combos to modern solid-state workhorses.
